The idea for a yarn club based on the phonetic alphabet has been brewing for over ten years.

Initially I didn't run it because who really needs 26 x 50g skeins of sock yarn all in one go? Fortunately now we have easily accessible minis so at long last, the yarn club is coming to life!

As someone with 1. a surname that has to be spelled out and 2. letters in that name that are frequently misheard (b, v, l and d), the phonetic alphabet has held long appeal. I also genuinely love the idea that with minis that represent letters, you can put colours together to spell out messages in your knitting. WTF, anyone?

Let's acknowledge at the outset that the NATO phonetic alphabet has colonial origins, so some of the words are problematic. We'll be swapping out a couple words for this reason.

25 x 20g mini skeins
1 x 100g skein
1 x calico project bag
4 x treats valued at $40

You will have the option to choose from either high twist merino sock or 100% merino 4ply. Both cost the same.

The kit will ship the week of 23 November, to arrive in time for 1 December if you'd like to open it as an advent-style club.
